If I right click on the drive all options are greyed out apart from "help".ĭo I presume that somehow I have to format the drive as it won't let me do anything else? I don't understand how I cannot format or asign a letter even though it's there.

If I right click on that the line stays blue but the cross-hatched box is surrounded by a grey line but the options menu is all greyed out. It also says Disk 2, Basic, Online and the box has the blue line at the top. The lower right window says 1863.02 GB and under it, "Healthy(GPT Protective Partition). In the top right hand window the drive is listed but with no letter and then it says "Partition" "Basic" (The File system is blank!) and then "Healthy(GPT Protective Partition). I have received a new Seagate 2 TB HD today and I am having the same problem that Device manager shows the drive but it doesn't show up in my computer. In the bottom pane window where you see the partitions, (with the coloured bars on top graphically showing you the disks) you will find one of them, your external HDD, with NO letter.ħ Right click over the offending no letter drive (the one you re-plugged in) and choose "change drive letter and paths"Ĩ Select a letter but choose wisely! NOT C or D or something that is in normal use, something else.ĩ Windows will then pop up and register your external HDD just like when you plug in your phone! (just in case as in the first responses above).ĥ replug your hard drive, and whilst still with the computer managementĦ Go to Storage/disk management. I think you just need to set a letter for the volume and it will come to life.ġ Type "computer management" in the search bar after you click on the start button.ģ Look into the left side of the columns.Ĥ FIRST click on device manager, and go to USB (universal serial bus controllers) and uninstall, install the mass storage driver.
